I am off to Cumbria for a spot of hiking, scrambling and general outdoorsiness this week, but with a twist! I am staying in a Camping Pod. Pods look like a lot of fun and I can’t wait to try one out, below is a brief description of the ethos of the Pod and why it appeals to me as a late season alternative to nights under canvas.
The Galata Bridge in Istanbul links Europe to Asia across the waters of the Golden Horn. Eminönu is a district on the south bank of the water on the european side. The skyline is littered with domes and minarets from the many mosques that define this area making for some great photo opportunities from the vantage point of the bridge.
This photograph was shot on an old analog Pentax camera using film and the negatives were later scanned in for digital use.

My ‘Adventurous Quote Posts‘ are usually reserved for quotes by adventurous types – your famous adventurers and explorers, but occasionally they also feature great writers or thinkers.
Well I am going to add another category to that list today, that of the great visionaries. The person I am thinking of in particular is Steve Jobs. Jobs to my mind was truly a great visionary a one-off and an unbelievable motivator of men in both business and in life. If you have ever been lucky enough to listen to one of his Apple keynotes you would know exactly where I am coming from with this. His various speeches and musings would probably have you follow him over the top (metaphorically speaking) and if need be you would probably do so without asking too many questions . In 2008 I sailed up the river Nile in a restored 1920’s Royal Steamer the SS Misr. We sailed from Luxor to Aswan over the period of a week and saw many amazing and spectacular sites along the way in this ancient land. But the most spectacular sight of all was a natural one – the African sunset!
One evening I managed to catch the sun setting in just the right spot and at the right time as it dipped down behind some hazy silhouetted palms along the banks of the river as we slowly chugged by.
I snapped this shot from the balcony of our cabin while supping a cold beer sitting on a small wooden stool watching the river pass by below. It was as perfect a moment as you could possibly want on your travels! I hope you enjoy the shot.
