During my tour of Indochina I visited the famous jungle ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Within many of the temple compounds you would come across these traditional Cambodian dance troupes (as seen in my above photograph. The dancers would perform – for a small fee of course – exotic routines for the discerning and weary western traveller, it was all good clean fun, even if it was all a bit touristy!

Microadventure – A Cornish Adventure 2012

All good adventures have three parts to them; A Beginning, A Middle, and An End!

The Beginning!
We sped down the very tight and twisting country lane in Cornwall towards the tiny cove of Port Quin. We were sucked even tighter and twisted into our slightly ill-fitting wetsuits laden down with life jackets, helmets and a heavy amount of apprehension.

This was the beginning of our Cornish Microadventure which had been a year in the planning. Waking up at 6am, eating breakfast, getting in a car and sitting in traffic for an hour on your way to work, sitting in a box for eight hours, sitting in traffic on your way home, eating dinner in front of the TV and then going to sleep. Then repeating that process for the next 60 years of your life until you retire and then die. I think that’s completely and utterly insane.

Last year I boldly lay down a ‘Statement of Intent’ for the year in a vain effort to force myself into attempting some outdoor activities way outside of my own personal comfort zone. In the main I managed to achieve all that I set out to do – see A statement of intent 2011 (update), in fact I enjoyed putting the challenges down in writing so much that I feel compelled to do it again this year A statement of intent 2012. At number 5 on my list this year appears the below challenge: Continue reading “Hiking and Camping trip to The Isle of Arran”
